Frequently Asked Questions
Is LSIP the right entrepreneur mentorship program for me?
The goal of LSIP is to help launch successful life science startups by pairing startup founders with expert business and life science industry advisors. Our mentors and MBA assistants can help you with developing a business plan, evaluating the impact of your technology, performing market research, figuring out patent issues, and more. If you have a technology or idea that you want to commercialize, LSIP may be the right resource to help you succeed.
What exactly does the program entail?
Beginning in October, you will be paired with at least 2 advisors and 1 MBA student, based on your need. You will meet with your mentors regularly over the course of 3 months (scheduled meetings as needed). In January 2019, we will host a final showcase where all teams will pitch to a large audience of mentors and established members of the life science startup ecosystem in Boston.
Who are the mentors?
All mentors will be provided through our collaborators at MassBio, a large non-profit that provides services for the Massachusetts life sciences supercluster. MBA students from Harvard Business School will also be available to help you. Check back soon for mentor bios.
What stage does my startup need to be in to participate?
Our program is intended to help life sciences startups get off the ground, regardless of how far along you are in your journey. You should have more than just an idea, but it's okay if you are still in the very early stages.
Does LSIP take any equity in my startup?
No, this is a completely free service for Harvard-based startups.
How do I ensure confidentiality about my idea?
You should only share non-confidential information during the application stage.
Can I apply as a solo founder?
Yes, and we can help solo founders develop a strategy for identifying team members.
Do you accept all applications?
We will do our best to accommodate as many teams as possible. If we feel that your startup is not the right fit for our mentorship program, we will refer you to additional resources in the Boston startup ecosystem.
Do I need to be affiliated with Harvard?
Yes, at least one person on your team should be affiliated with Harvard.
When is the deadline to apply?
Applications are due 9/21/18. We will notify you by 10/1/18.
